OUR MISSION

The United Cares Community Board is dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing medical challenges by providing compassionate financial assistance for essential healthcare-related expenses. Serving communities from Point May to Grand Beach, including Fortune and Grand Bank, the Board aims to reduce the financial burden associated with medical treatment, travel and recovery.

Grounded in fairness, dignity, and community care, United Community Cares work to complement existing supports while ensuring that no patient or family faces medical hardship alone. Through responsible stewardship and a commitment to local well-being, the Board strives to strengthen resilience and provide meaningful support during times of need.

OUR BACKGROUND

For many years, the Grand Bank Fortune Ambulance Service played a vital role in supporting the health and safety of residents throughout the Burin Peninsula. Operated with a strong sense of community responsibility, the organization provided essential emergency services while reflecting the commitment and care of the people it served.

In 2024, ambulance services in the region transitioned to Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services as part of a broader provincial integration. With the disbanding of the Grand Bank Fortune Ambulance Service, community leaders and local Town Councils recognized an important opportunity: to ensure that the organization’s remaining resources would continue to benefit the people it had long served.

From this vision, the United Community Care Foundation was established.

The Foundation exists to support individuals and families from Point May to Grand Beach who are facing unexpected health-related expenses. Whether it is assistance with medical travel, equipment, or other unforeseen costs, the Foundation aims to ease financial burdens during difficult times. Rooted in the same spirit of care and community that defined the ambulance service, the United Community Care Foundation continues a legacy of helping neighbours when they need it most.
